Happy Valentines Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day! This is one of my favourite holidays, even more so this year as it will be my first Valentine’s being engaged (he proposed on January 13th). As I was searching online for different ways to celebrate the day, I found a few interesting Valentine tidbits:
- The oldest known Valentine still in existence today was a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans. This poem was dedicated to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt. How romantic is that?
- According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year (Christmas is the first).
- Women purchase approximately 85% of all Valentines.
- Cupid, a symbol of Valentine’s Day, became associated with this holiday because he was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty. Cupid often appears on Valentine’s cards holding a bow and arrows because he is believed to use magical arrows to inspire feelings of love.
How are we celebrating Valentine’s Day? We’re giving away a $100 gift certificate to Gusto di Quattro, so make sure you stop by The Versatile Building Presentation Centre before closing on February 14th, to enter our draw.
If you haven’t been, Gusto di Quattro is located on the corner of Lonsdale and Esplanade Avenue, a short stroll from The Versatile Building. This restaurant was made for romantic dinners, and their food will make you come back again and again.
See you soon!
